Check Twice Before You Start Beating Yourself Up.
I am doing a product review of a new glucometer when this happened. This is 2 hours after breakfast and my blood sugar should be less than 180.
I checked, I got 199.
I was shocked, upset, confused, and just as I started to get emotionally disappointed with myself. I remembered that I only ate an egg and cheese sandwich and nothing more. That's just 32 grams of carbs.
So I check again, just 1 minute later. 164 😊😊 That's well within range. Now I am joyful, loving myself, high-fiving myself, feeling great about not putting jam on my toast. ❤️ Diabetes is emotional, but remember to check twice before you beat yourself because sometimes it's not you -it's them.
Although it isn't made specifically for people with diabetes, I tried the Mean Green by @coldpressjuices for breakfast and it wasn't bad. It kept my blood sugar low two hours afterwards. It wasn't as green as it looks on their website (1st two pictures are of the drink I bought and the 3rd one is a screenshot from their website). Taste: In one word, "healthy." It's certainly "natural" and if juicing is your thing (is not mine yet) then this is probably gonna be delicious to you.
Would I buy it again? Yes, this is actually my second time trying it. I can't see myself drinking it often but it did make me want to buy a NutraBullet and get into the juicing culture. #futuregoals #juicecleanse
They also make a Pink Lady Apple juice that is so delicious! It's now my favorite drink to have when my blood sugar is low.

BRING YOUR OWN SUGAR-FREE SYRUP! I have learned to carry my own sugar-free syrup to @ihop because sometimes they don't have it available.
Matter of fact, when I went to #ihopuae two months ago for pancakes, I wasn't able to have any because they didn't have sugar-free syrup. Talk about feeling totally DEVASTATED! So, this weekend I bought that small bottle in the picture just for this occasion.
Btw, I have never been told "we don't have sugar-free syrup" at @crackerbarrel. Which I totally love about that place. Sometimes, I just want the best pancakes in the world and that's only at @IHOP.
Even if I can only eat about half the stacks because of #carbcounting.

*Disclaimer: This bracelet was given to me by StickyJewelry in exchange for my honest review of their product. All opinions expressed below are my own.
For about a month now, I have been wearing this Diabetes Alert Bracelet from @stickyjewelry. This is by far the most stylish medical alert bracelet I have own. The leather band and the silver plate makes me feel like wearing every day and everywhere I go. I use to only wear medical bracelets at the gym, but since owning this one, I put on in the mornings with my fitbit and go on with my day. If you would like to check out StickyJewelry.com, they are currently 15% (code PBR 1517)
They silver plate has not tarnished either. On "the for real tip" or "on the low down," I was wondering if that would happen and I have been completely amazed at how much it looks like it did the first day it arrived. The last medical alert bracelet I had that looked more like a piece of jewelry than a medical emergency tarnished after wearing it for a week. I was so disappointed....
This Hummus and Lettuce roll was the snack for my #diabeticmeal on #etihadairways and it was delicious. It was nice to have this savory snack following such a bland lunch. I would have preferred wheat over white and a little more hummus but it was soft and I was hungry.
This was the best thing I got served on the entire flight. It reminded me how much of a blessing salt really is, even in the smallest amount.

What's in My Gym Bag Part 2
This concludes the two part series of "What's in my Gym Bag." If you missed Part 1, scroll my instagram feed and watch it.
Before I was diagnosed with diabetes, I use to only carry my car keys and a bottle of water to the gym. Having diabetes requires more than that, however.
In Parts 1 and 2, I explain what items I take with me to the gym and why.

And the award for the most bland lunch and dinner #diabeticmeal on an airplane goes to #etihadairways.
I was looking forward to the #diabetic meal on my return flight because I didn't have it on the first leg of the journey. The non-diabetic lunch/dinner meals were plated with savory smelling curry that made the entire airplane smell edible. Naturally then, I was ready to see what yummy goodness was on my plate.
Surprise! I got PLAIN white rice with PLAIN Salmon with PLAIN spinach.
I was so disappointed that I ate one fork full of each and hoped that the aroma of curry might satisfy my hunger.
Eventually, lunch came and so did that wonderful curry smell. My lunch was PAIN white rice, PLAIN chicken breast and corn medley.
Again, I took one bite, so I could say that I tasted it for the review but it should have came with a trigger warning. "This meal may remind you of your last hospital visit." Because that's exactly what happened. Look #etihadairways, I have #diabetes but that doesn't mean that I can't...
Never ever never forget to order the #diabeticmeal on #etihadairways.
My flight was booked by a travel agent for the #2ruthinNumbers Diabetes Blogger Summit so I didn't think to ask about the diabetic meal until the day before my departure. Well, they needed 48hrs to make the request, so I couldn't get the diabetic meal.
This is the breakfast that was served. Oh, let us count the carbs.
Protein-? Where art thou protein?
There is NO WAY this breakfast would work for me unless my blood sugar was extremely low. Low like, it might be time to eject me from the plane and send me to a hospital.
Fortunately, my blood sugar was 83 and I was able to eat a small piece of the cake without the frosting.
The good thing, I always travel with mixed nuts so I ate a few to try to give some balance to the meal. #mealprep
And trust me, I WILL have the diabetic meal on the return flight!! #diabetics need protein!
WHAT'S IN MY GYM BAG? (Part 1)
A medical alert bracelet.
This very stylish one is from StickyJewelry.com they are offering 15% off (code PBR 1517) and free shipping in the USA
I always feel more comfortable at the gym or going on walks/jobs/runs when I wear a medical alert bracelet. In the past, however, some have been either too glaring (I don't need the entire world to know my business from a mile away) or barely visible (which made me doubt someone would see it if I needed them to). This one is perfect.

So the universe must have read my review about the skimpy portion of protein I got served on American Airlines and decided to give me a double portion on #qatarairways. (I would like to pause to thank God for the abundance of chicken on this tray because I was STARVING by the time it came). This is my #diabetic dinner from Paris to Doha. It was a night flight (10pm) and I hadn't eaten since 4pm so I really needed to NOT regret selecting the #diabeticmeal option for my #inflightmeal.
#qatarairways didn't disappoint!
Presentation = 5/5
This meal would have gotten a perfect score had I not had that perfectly cooked chicken on #americanair the week before. I ate this ENTIRE entrée except for the fresh green peppers and olives.
Let's start with the protein. Do you see the overflow of chicken on the tray? There's a hot chicken breast and then two pieces of cold chicken breasts (not deli slices) on the fresh salad. This is how you keep it #lowcarb and fil...
