This Hummus and Lettuce roll was the snack for my #diabeticmeal on #etihadairways and it was delicious. It was nice to have this savory snack following such a bland lunch. I would have preferred wheat over white and a little more hummus but it was soft and I was hungry.
This was the best thing I got served on the entire flight. It reminded me how much of a blessing salt really is, even in the smallest amount.

What's in My Gym Bag Part 2
This concludes the two part series of "What's in my Gym Bag." If you missed Part 1, scroll my instagram feed and watch it.
Before I was diagnosed with diabetes, I use to only carry my car keys and a bottle of water to the gym. Having diabetes requires more than that, however.
In Parts 1 and 2, I explain what items I take with me to the gym and why.

And the award for the most bland lunch and dinner #diabeticmeal on an airplane goes to #etihadairways.
I was looking forward to the #diabetic meal on my return flight because I didn't have it on the first leg of the journey. The non-diabetic lunch/dinner meals were plated with savory smelling curry that made the entire airplane smell edible. Naturally then, I was ready to see what yummy goodness was on my plate.
Surprise! I got PLAIN white rice with PLAIN Salmon with PLAIN spinach.
I was so disappointed that I ate one fork full of each and hoped that the aroma of curry might satisfy my hunger.
Eventually, lunch came and so did that wonderful curry smell. My lunch was PAIN white rice, PLAIN chicken breast and corn medley.
Again, I took one bite, so I could say that I tasted it for the review but it should have came with a trigger warning. "This meal may remind you of your last hospital visit." Because that's exactly what happened. Look #etihadairways, I have #diabetes but that doesn't mean that I can't...
Never ever never forget to order the #diabeticmeal on #etihadairways.
My flight was booked by a travel agent for the #2ruthinNumbers Diabetes Blogger Summit so I didn't think to ask about the diabetic meal until the day before my departure. Well, they needed 48hrs to make the request, so I couldn't get the diabetic meal.
This is the breakfast that was served. Oh, let us count the carbs.
Protein-? Where art thou protein?
There is NO WAY this breakfast would work for me unless my blood sugar was extremely low. Low like, it might be time to eject me from the plane and send me to a hospital.
Fortunately, my blood sugar was 83 and I was able to eat a small piece of the cake without the frosting.
The good thing, I always travel with mixed nuts so I ate a few to try to give some balance to the meal. #mealprep
And trust me, I WILL have the diabetic meal on the return flight!! #diabetics need protein!
WHAT'S IN MY GYM BAG? (Part 1)
A medical alert bracelet.
This very stylish one is from StickyJewelry.com they are offering 15% off (code PBR 1517) and free shipping in the USA
I always feel more comfortable at the gym or going on walks/jobs/runs when I wear a medical alert bracelet. In the past, however, some have been either too glaring (I don't need the entire world to know my business from a mile away) or barely visible (which made me doubt someone would see it if I needed them to). This one is perfect.

So the universe must have read my review about the skimpy portion of protein I got served on American Airlines and decided to give me a double portion on #qatarairways. (I would like to pause to thank God for the abundance of chicken on this tray because I was STARVING by the time it came). This is my #diabetic dinner from Paris to Doha. It was a night flight (10pm) and I hadn't eaten since 4pm so I really needed to NOT regret selecting the #diabeticmeal option for my #inflightmeal.
#qatarairways didn't disappoint!
Presentation = 5/5
This meal would have gotten a perfect score had I not had that perfectly cooked chicken on #americanair the week before. I ate this ENTIRE entrée except for the fresh green peppers and olives.
Let's start with the protein. Do you see the overflow of chicken on the tray? There's a hot chicken breast and then two pieces of cold chicken breasts (not deli slices) on the fresh salad. This is how you keep it #lowcarb and fil...
#americanairlines did an awesome job with this #diabetic dinner (April 2017, Miami to Paris). The chicken breast was cooked to perfection. It was better than some chicken breasts I have made at home. It tasted like the chef accounted for the chicken being cooked again on the plane so s/he didn't overcook it initially.
I was pleasantly surprised to find the chicken sitting on a bed of quinoa. (I am use to rice or potatoes) This was my second time eating quinoa and it made me think about trying to cook it at home. It was very delicious, after I added salt and pepper.😉
Taste = 4.8/5
The main dish came with a fresh salad and cantaloupe.
Way to go #americanair you nailed it with this meal. #diabeticlife #inflightmeal #quinoa for the win!
I have now had #montysbakehouse for the #diabetic meal breakfast option on two different airlines #qatarairways and #americanair...my thoughts? Monty's Bake House, you are doing too much. These Frittatas are a great idea, but they are loaded with so many spices and ingredients that it's overpowering. I get it, it's suitable for #vegetarians, #diabetics, and it's #glutenfree so you want it to taste good.
But less can be more. The one I had on Qatar Airlines this morning from Paris to Doha contained:
2. butternut squash
7. red pepper
12. black pepper
16. corn flour, and
This is truly sensory overload. I couldn't eat it. My palate was confused. Do you have anything that's just egg, cheese, and spinach?
#diabeticlife simple #scrambledeggs will do
Ever wonder what's the difference between a #diabeticmeal on an airplane and a regular meal? This picture of dessert tells the story. The regular meal came with a delicious caramel brownie and the diabetic meal came with two pieces of mouth-watering fresh cantaloupe. Yummy! (Flight from Miami to Paris) #lowcarblife #americanair #americanairlines #lowglycemic
This was my #diabetic breakfast while flying #americanairlines #americanair from Paris to Miami. It's a Frittata (omelette). Low carb breakfast indeed, that could be balanced with some orange juice.
Variety = 3/5
It was delicious, but I didn't eat it all because I don't like onions that much and picked my way through it. The black olives were a nice addition and I am certain that without the onions, I would have throughly enjoyed this entirely. The portion size was ample for breakfast. I would love to try one of these Frittatas with just spinach and feta cheese. That would be Yummy.
For breakfast, I didn't feel disappointed that I had requested a #diabeticmeal (like I did when I got my dinner).
